When someone mentions Fiskars, the first thought to comes to mind is probably those Orange Handled Scissors that they introduced in the late 1960′s (those were actually the first plastic handled scissors). What people may not realize is that Fiskars has been around since 1649. The Fiskars company is more than 360 years old and also the oldest company in Finland, so they must be doing something right.
Fiskars has introduced a new cutting system called the Fuse Creativity System. The Fuse Creativity System is the only system on the market that can die-cut and letterpress in one pass. The Fuse Creativity System was also listed as one of the Winter 2013 Craft and Hobby Association (CHA) Hot 20 as chosen by a panel of celebrity media judges.
I have a lot of dies from other machines I own, so the first question that came to mind when I saw this was, “will my current dies work with this system?” and the answer is yes. You can purchase an adapter kit, but that is explained in more detail below.
The Fuse Creativity System Starter Set is available in stores now and includes everything you need to get started creating right out of the box. You get the machine, a design set including a die and two letterpress plates, a cutting plate with a rubber mat, a baseplate and even an inkpad.
The Fuse Creativity System is designed to cut chipboard, wood veneer, cork magnet, window sheets, vinyl, felt, fabric, foil, foam, cardstock and other thick crafting materials.
How to use the Fiskars Fuse Creativity System
The Fuse Creativity System has a 12 inch cutting width and an easy to turn manual crank. The design of this system actually allows you to do more with less turns of the crank. When it comes time to store or transport the system, it folds up and has a carrying handle to make moving the Fuse easier.
The Fuse even has a built in storage compartment to store dies, letterpress plates and other accessories.
Fuse Creativity System Adapter Kit
Using dies that you already own is easy with the adapter kit. The adapter kit includes a base plate, three shims, rubber mat and cutting plate to create the perfect “sandwich” thickness when using other dies and plates with our system. The adapter kit works with dies and plates from LifeStyle Crafts, Sizzix, Stampin Up, Provocraft, Spellbinders, Accuquilt and even Fiskars Texture Plates.
Five Techniques with one design set
Check out the example below of what you can do with the Fiskars Fuse Creativity System. The five different techniques are: Die-Cut and Letterpress, Die-Cut and Press, Die-Cut only, Letterpress only and Press only. One Fuse Creativity Medium Design Set will allow you to use all the techniques shown below.
The Fuse Creativity System Medium Design Set are specially designed to both cut and letterpress intricate shapes in lightweight crafting materials like paper; cardstock; vellum and more. Each Design Set includes one die and two coordinating letterpress plates that can be used in various combinations to create the five different techniques shown below. Use the letterpress plates to create textured or inked accents– they can be inked with any fabric-topped ink pad or marker for quick; easy; and stunning embellishing. Experiment with different dies; letterpress plates; inks; and crafting materials to create a full spectrum of designer-quality results!

The Fiskars Fuse Creativity System appears to be a very versatile system. Fiskars knows cutting and they have been around for more than 360 years, so I am pretty excited that they have come out with this new system. I checked amazon.com and it is available, so I may just be purchasing on in the near future… I really mean in the next few hours.
